Speed Rating

Speed Ratings

A tire's speed rating is a performance measurement given by being able to reach and maintain a specified speed for an extended period of time. Generally, the higher the speed rating of a tire, the better handling a tire will have. You should never mix tires of different speed ratings on the same vehicle, as that will result in serious vehicle handling problems. We also recommend that you never downgrade the speed rating that comes on your vehicle from the factory, as this will negatively affect the handling as well. However, you can upgrade the speed rating of your tires with no negative handling effects. The speed rating specific to your vehicle can be found on the vehicle placard or the owner's manual.

Below is a list of speed ratings and their corresponding speeds. These speeds represent capability, not recommended speeds.
